About this trip

The Machame Route, known as the Whiskey Route, climbs through rainforest to the Shira Plateau and traverses the southern slopes beneath the glaciers. The 7-day version adds an extra night for acclimatisation and gives a much better chance of reaching Uhuru Peak.

Your crew includes a lead guide, assistant guides, a cook and porters, all employed on fair terms. We check your health twice a day and carry emergency oxygen.

Requirements and cancellation

Requirements

  • Good fitness: you should be able to hike 6–8 hours on consecutive days
  • Travel insurance covering trekking to 6,000 m and helicopter evacuation
  • Minimum age 10
  • Medical check recommended

Cancellation conditions

  • 60 days or more before arrival: deposit refunded minus bank charges
  • 59–30 days: 30% of the tour price
  • 29–8 days: 50% of the tour price
  • 7 days or less, or no-show: 100% of the tour price
